Sam Hunter is a very successful insurance salesman. He lives in a gorgeous townhouse that has gone up in value since he purchased it. He drives a Mercedes. He's able to become different people depending on what his clients need to see in order to buy insurance. Of course, this isn't really who he is. I mean, it is him, but only because he needs it to be him. Now. Understand?
Sam was born Samson Hunts Alone on the Crow reservation of Montana. He is a full-blooded Native American who fled his home and family after knocking a real asshole cop off of a bridge. So now he pretends to be white, aided by his golden eyes, and transforms himself into the persona needed to get his job done. One day, as it usually goes, a girl came along and changed him.
Calliope has a flat-tire that coincides with Sam leaving his office for an appointment. He really wants to help Calliope, finding her attractive and all, and drives her to her job. He also has new tires put on her car. Sam dismisses the Indian that he's seen today as his past sneaking up on him. You know, psychically. Sam had no idea how right he was. Except his past is physically sneaking up on him. The Indian is his spirit guide, Coyote the Trickster.
I don't want to give away too much, but rest assured that there is humor, sex, shape-shifting, bikers, hippies, and lots of strong medicine and trickery. How could you possibly resist?
your moore reviews make me crave another of his books. this one was a pretty good romp. what am i saying, he's always reliable that way. A Dirty Job and Fluke were great too. Fluke is my favorite of his books, that I've read.

ReplyDeleteI have read four of them, but I am not sure if I'm really in the mood for another - this one makes me curious though. I think maybe once you're through, you just need to rank order all his novels so I know where to go next.
